The protection of the Chameleon

To continue with our goal to protect the environment we have started a campaign to protect the chameleon. When we started to build the apartments it was necessary to find an area close to the building site where the chameleon could survive. The east coast of Malaga is one of the few places in Europe that is inhabited by this unique species. The conservation of this endangered species has grown to be one of our most important goals.

All chameleons on the property of Calaceite will be relocated to nearby locations with the same environmental and climatic characteristics.

On August 26th we had a nice surprise on the terrace of our sales office, a visit from a chameleon! (see picture)

Children that visit Calaceite receive a nice t-shirt with a print of: Calito the Chameleon and our text "Calaceite takes care of me".

Things to know about the Chameleon

The type of Chameleon we see in Europe is the "normal Chameleon" (Chamaeleonidae)

This type of Chameleon can also change its colour rapidly although it doesn´t do this to camouflage itself but rather to reflect his/hers moods.

The colour can vary from blue-green to brown-yellow combined with various patterns.

Their food consists mainly of insects which they catch with the long "sticky tongue".

This type of Chameleon has 4 toes on each foot that are attached in pairs in a type of "grip hold" that comes handy in climbing trees and bushes.
