Bicycle itineraries Andalusia

One of the most beautiful areas to explore by bicycle in Andalusia is the Sierra de Tejeda and Almijara, located in Andalusia, close to the Spanish Costa del Sol.

This mountain range has excellent cycle routes to enjoy the Andalusian country side. In this article you find a summary of the best available routes of this area.

The mountain range of Nerja is the most eastern part of the Almijara mountain range,  a 7.000 hectares nature park. This mountain range is connected with the mountain range of nature park of  Tejeda. The landscape is generally very steep and abrupt with deep ravines.

The greater part of this mountain range is covered by Brushwood, from which emerge Pine trees. This sierra has a very rich fauna of which include amphibians such as the toad and frog, snakes, lizards,  but also birds such as eagles and kestrels and mammals such as the weasel and the fox.

1) Bicycle route: Tejeda mountain range- El Alcázar
Length: 32.54km
Duration: 5hours
Slope: direct 700m (+580, -120), over the whole route: 1496m (+748, - 748)
User level: no need of extreme high physical level, neither a high technical level since the road is of very good condition. One of the most difficult parts of this route is the last climb before you arrive Alcaucín (15% slope)

Start: at the entrance of Alcuacín you will find a sign which direction to take to get to Alcázar which is the start of the itinerary. The itinerary will pass village's water supply, the creek of Alcázar, a picnic area at the Alcázar mountain range, you will enter Granada province, the second picnic area at the road" Ventas de Zafarraya de Alhama", passed the village Ventas de Zafarraya

End: Alcaucín Pueblo

2) Bicycle route: mountain ranges Tejeda and Almijara
Length: 39.54km
Duration: 6 hours
Slope: direct 750m (+625, -125) over the whole route 2020m (+1014, -1014)
User level: Physical medium, technical medium due to a small descent from the Puerto Blanquillo to Canillas of which the road conditions are poor.

Start: From the white village of Salares (600m height) direction Canillas de Aceituno. After 350m we will leave this road to enter a track road.This itinerary will go passed Puerto Blanquillo (1.208m), chapel of Santa Ana, Canillas de Albaida

End: Salares

3) Bicycle route: River Chíllar and Cortijo de la Civila
Length: 25km
Slope: direct 600m, over the whole itinerary 2.156m (+1078, -1.078)
Duration: 5 hours
User level:Physical low, except a slope towards Cortijos de la Civila of which its difficulty is high. Technical there are no difficulties.

Start: From the parking at  theNerja cave. This itinerary will go passed The creek of the  Cazadores, River Chíllar and Cortijo de la Civila.

End: Cueva de Nerja

The River Chíllar is a famous creek in this area because of its precious hiking itinerary which runs along the river bed of the Chillar River to the dam.
