Frigiliana, also known as " the village of the 3 cultures " going back to the various cultures that lived in Frigiliana throughout the centuries, the jews, chrisitans and muslims.
In remembrance and encouragement of the peaceful coexistence of these 3 cultures in Frigiliana, each year in August there is a party that takes place for 4 days, the party of the "tres culturas" with traditional dance, music and food.

Frigiliana
  • Cruz de Pinto - Legend and tradition. Francisco Pinto, a fisherman, whos boat was in danger due to a storm and the only land he could see was this rock. The captain of the boat promised that if they wouldn´t drown in this storm ye would place a cross on this spot. This spot is still visited by villagers and tourists that are also coming to pay some kind of "promise".
  • The parochy of San Antonio €“ built in the second half of the XVII century, under command of Bernardo de Godoy.
  • The chapel of Ecce Homo: in his village also known as Santo Cristo de la Caña (of the cane)
  • The house of the Manrique de Lara €“ Count of Frigiliana, of the XVI century, built in a Renaissance style.

3 May: Las Cruces de Mayo €“ villagers decorate the streets early in the morning with flowers and plants.
13 juni: The Feria in honor of San Antonio de Padua.
24 juni: San Juan: Peaceful party in honor of San Juan that is celebrated in Frigiliana by eating "cake of San Juan" with the family.
August: Festival of the three cultures. Music, craft markets, animation, gastronomy,..
7 September: Las Candelarias €“ burning of cane, weeds and other left over pieces of wood at farms around the village and in some areas within the village.

Gastronomy

In Frigiliana wine and raisins are produced that can be tasted in local bars.
Choto a la Frigiliana: lamb on a bases of oil, garlic, bread, vinegar, salt and grounded almonds.
Potaje de Semana Santa: soup based on chick peas, string beans and cod.
Patatas con miel de caña: Sweet potatoes with molases, with thanks to the production of molases and sugar in this área. This honey can be bought under the name "Nuestra Señora del Carmen"

Crafts

El esparto: with products such as baskets, flower pots, decorations, all made from a special type of cane (esparto) in a traditional way.
Ceramic: plates, pots, tiles, etc. all hand painted.
Paintings on glass: Pilar Garcia Millán, famous for her traditional paintings on glass. She paints tiles and wall panels on glass, such as the 12 scenes on the Moorish streets in the historical part of town.
