1. The route of the Cahorros del Río Chillar / La presa por el Cauce del Chillar

Length: 8km (until the dam)
Level: medium (depending on the water level of the river)
Tips: Nearly the entire route is through the river, it is therefore advisable to wear waterproof shoes.

This trail is without doubt one of the most visited in this natural park. During the summer a lot of tourists decide to do this route because of the beautiful surroundings and the unique experience to walk up a mountain through a river. Lovely and cool in the summer thanks to the shadows of the rocks and the refreshing water.
This trail is not really well sign posted and a bit hard to find due to the new urbanizations in Nerja, but its reputation will assure you that every local will be able to send you in the correct direction.
The route starts in Calle Picasso, next to the municipal sports park and in the urbanization Almijara, where you will find a country track that will lead you to the riverbed.
This trail ends at the dam and the only way back is the same way you came. A lot of people therefore decide to spend the night in the area of the dam to descend the following day.

2. The route of Rio Verde (Sierra Tejada)

Length: 7 Km.
Level: Medium

The goal is to reach the beginning of the river "Rio Verde". This trail starts in the Collado de los Chortales, at kilometer 28.7 of the "Carretera de la Cabra" (Granada-Almuñecar) road. We can split this route into various heights: Cerro Cabañeros (1.831m), Pico Navachica (1.831m) and Pico Lopera (1.485m). The vegetation comprises mainly of pines, oaks, juniper, rosemary and aromatic herbs.
After about an hour's walk you reach a narrow and steep area that gives entrance to Las Chorreas de los Palos, a 10 meter high waterfall.
The trail continues and is pretty easy to follow in the direction of the river till it gets steeper. The ground is a bit muddy and the path is more difficult to find. Keep following the road to the start of the Rio Verde with beautiful waterfalls.
