The annual average temperature is 19º C (66.2 F) thus enabling the practising of open air sports; sailing at the nearby marinas of Marina del Este and Caleta de Vélez, hiking along the rivers, reservoirs, caves, cliffs and natural areas of the 31 municipal districts forming the Axarquía region. The Sierra Nevada ski resort is 90 minutes away from Calaceite Residencial.
Beaches: La Carraca, el Peñoncillo, Mazagarrobo, Calaceite and Vílchez, complete a geography combining both long beaches and little coves. Torrox has all comforts without the overwhelming masification of other tourist destinations.
The Nerja Caves, Cathedral of the Prehistory, are only 4 minutes away from Calaceite, amazing place which becomes a luxury stage for dance, music and flamenco festivals held inside the caves. From Calaceite Residencial you may enjoy rural tourism visiting the countless archaeological remains of the regions, discover the popular handcrafts, its wines and gastronomy.

As already mentioned the Roman remains located on the coast next to the Lighthouse area are important ones. The ruins of a villa, a necropolis, baths, fish sauce stone pits, and common ceramic ovens are to be found there.
Remains of fortified towers and walls are also found at the town, of Arab origin. The urban structure of Torrox is totally morisca, with narrow, steep and sinuous streets, with steps to overcome the unevenness. Unexpected nooks are to be found in these streets with the typical whitewashed walls in contrast with the pots filled with flowers.
An interesting site is the Encarnación Church, built on the aljama or main mosque dating back to the 16th century, although reformed in the middle of the 17th century. Of baroque structure it has three naves apart from a square ground plant tower which make it a reference point to be visited.
It is also worth visiting the San Roque Church dating back to the 16th century and the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, of the same century and of mudejar style, founded by the Minim Friars of Saint Francis. The Customhouse or Mint dating back to the 18th century is an example of the former commercial splendour.
La Casa de la Cultura,erected in 1863, was the home of King Alphons XII during his visit to the area on the occasion of an earthquake which beat part of the Axarquía region. As far as the San José Hospital is concerned, the same is in ruins and only the façade is maintained.

Entre las visitas obligadas están las famosas Cuevas de Nerja (one of them is not open to the public), known as the Cathedral of the Prehistory. Apart from its magnificence, the Caves have 22 paintings most likely from auriñaciense (high paelaeolithic) period and have been declared Monumento Histórico-Artístico Nacional (Spanish Heritage Monument).
The well known Balcón de Europa, splendid vantage point to the Mediterranean, located right in the middle of the town, was built in 1487 on a former castle dating back to the 9th century, and it is nowadays a magnificent vantage point above the sea.
El Salvador Church.This parish is located in one of the sides of the Balcón de Europa, it dates back to the 16th century with significant baroque reforms during the 17th century. The tower has clear mudejar style signs.

San Miguel Church. Located on the other side of the town of Nerja, dates back to the 17th century and is of a clear baroque-mudejar style.
Hermitage of las Angustias. This is an hermitage dating back to the 17th century with frescoes of Granada pure style in the dome. Inside there is an image of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, patroness saint of the town of Nerja.
The Nerja Mountain Rangeand the Cliffs of Maro. The Nerja Mountain Range, as the Eastern part of the Almijara Mountain Range is locally known, with an area of some 7,000 hectares, is located at the far side of the Province of Málaga, whose boundary to the North and East is Granada.

The Almijara mountain is a sister of the Tejeda mountain, both of them forming a mountain range. The general landscape is steep, very rough, with high mountains close to the sea with deep gorges developed facing the coast. Puente del Águila. Puente del Águila is an aqueduct dating back to the 19th century built to take the water to the mills of the old San Joaquín sugar factory in Maro. It is located between Nerja and Maro, and the eagle which gives the name to the aqueduct is perfectly kept at the central part of the monument.
Maro: A Nerja district rising on beautiful cliffs protecting a large number of coves. In Maro apart from the Nerja caves you can visit the Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas Church, built at the beginning of the 17th century and reformed later on, as well as its charming beaches and coves.

Frigiliana: picturesque Andalusian village perched on the Almijara Mountain Range at 6 km from Nerja. The main feature of this village are its whitewashed streets decorated with flower pots and above all its local wine which you can try and buy at the small handcrafts shops along its steep streets built with stone.
Málaga: Capital of the Costa del Sol, Malaga offers unlimited possibilities. Malaga is a sunny city with a pleasant and sunny climate all year round. Málaga offers wonderful beaches and everything you need to enjoy: sports such as golf, tenis, montar a caballo, etc.,tennis, horse riding, and so on, cultural venues such as concerts and theatre plays held at the famous Teatro Cervantes and in other theatres in town and the new Museo Picasso.

The Sierra Tejeda, Almaza and Almijara Natural Park, with 40,000 hectares of mountains between Málaga and Granada is a region that sweeps right down to the sea at the Acantilados de Maro, declared a Natural Park in the year 1999, with stunning views from the from highest summit in the province of Malaga La Maroma, or the summit of the Cerro Lucero.
